Find the background you want to use
Highlight the text in the box and use the 3. Edit -> Copy or ctrl+C option to copy it
Visit your column settings page. (be sure you're logged in) Paste the background URL in the "bg1" or "bg2" option boxes and hit save.
If you would like other layouts for your column, you can apply myspace backgrounds (not layouts) to your column.

choose a pic you like from photobucket (search hearts or something)
ORRR
a pic you already have saved froim your computer
for photobucket--copy the pic url into profile setting
for a pic you have--upload it to tiny pic and then get the url onto your profile settings box

-above all the boxes with all the colors and everything and it will say "We also have some ready-made backgrounds for everyone here: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) click on that link
-when you find one you like copy and paste the code into the box that says "page background image (URL)" (the box will b on the column settings page)
