I am currently a sophomore, and i'm looking for ways to "bulk up" my college application...b/c i dont really have much for it. Can anyone tell me the name of a good organization or internship kind of program. Does anyone have the name of a good organization that i can intern for? or do volunteer work for? But i would want like a long term kind of program (not one that i only go to for one day and then i'm done).
if anyone has ANY suggestions, i would greatly appreciate them.
Thanks so much!!!

Right now, I'm raising money to go to Jamaica and Africa this summer to volunteer. You may not be able to travel that far, but if you can just search for teen volunteer programs online. You could also volunteer at a local hospital or medical center. They're always looking for work.
Your school also probably has NHS (National Honors Society). I think you need a 3.5 GPA to get into it, but they also do a lot of volunteer work. NHS is AMAZING for college applications.
Honestly, just joining clubs is a great way to stand out to colleges. If your school has a student run newspaper or magazine they put out, you could try joining that.
Also try to take as many electives as you can. I took Photography and Sociology this year, and next year I'm taking AP Psychology. Colleges look for dedicated students.
As for internships, I'm not sure of any good ones. It just depends on what you're interested in. Try googling internships in your area. For example, "Fashion internships in Orlando," or "Student internships in Boston," etc.
If you want to volunteer, I'd strongly suggest you call the hospital or talk to them in person and find out about volunteer work. Since you'd just be volunteering, they'd give you a flexible schedule.
Hope this helped! [ xoRachel's advice column | Ask xoRachel A Question ]
