Family

Question Posted Thursday April 5 2007, 11:31 pm

Everyone in my family tells me that I have a great memory. On April 3, 2006 (the 2nd Night of Passover) I was having dinner with my mom, my sister, brother-in-law and 2 nephews I was telling them a story about how in 1998 when my younger nephew was seven I took him to see Prince of Egypt and once scene scared him and what happened that night when they were putting him to bed. Any way they denied it happened. And tonight my Mom said just because they dont remember doesnt mean I am wrong or they are wrong. But what I dont understand is why would they ALWAYS tell me I have a great memory and then do the above.

Just because someone has an excellent memory doesn't mean they remember everything perfectly. I wonder if that isn't what they were thinking. I remember things from when I was 18 months old (I had my tonsils out) and I remember them vividly. But that doesn't mean I remember everything. HOWEVER, that being said, I trust you and that you do indeed remember this incident better than they. Were they pretending not to remember as to save your nephew some embarassment, or to get you to change the subject? Was it uncomfortable? Second, people's memories are frail. If they don't remember it, then you don't have to feel slighted that they denied it. Their perspective is the truth in their world. You know the truth as it really happened. Don't worry about it too much. You're still holding on to this perceived slight from a year ago? If I were to say "what a lovely blue sky" and someone were to argue with me and tell me that it's actually a rather murky brownish-green, and I knew the truth, what difference would it make to me that they didn't know what they were talking about. Whatever. You know the truth. Try not to let it bother you.

Dear Reader,
Its simple, its because THEY dont remember it. Dont be upset because they dont remember it, just be happy that you do and that you have one more memory then they do.
Sincerly,
Lisa
