Mac/iPod help! I am having problems. I have a 60 gig iPod Video. I want to put videos onto it, but I can't using my old computer. It's an iMac OSX, and apparently it is impossible to update it. Is this true? I have to update iTunes in order to put a movie on my iPod. And please don't give me any answers like "You shouldn't have gotten a mac in the first place, you idiot". I just want some help. Please and thank you!

First things first log onto your Macintosh computer right now and hit the icon in the top right hand corner that looks like a blue apple wioth a bite out of it. Use the drop down menu for About This Mac. This will tell you what version of OSX you have installed, the speed of your processor, and your memory.
The next thing you need to do is click where it says OSX version with your mouse one time. Write down your serial number. You can then call Apple's tech support department or your nearest Apple Store (see apple.com) and they can tell you exactly how you can update your machine and install more memory and make things faster.
Anyone who says your computer cannot be updated is wrong. There's so mch incorrect info about Apple's Imac products out there it's rediculous.
If you call Apple's 24 hour tech support (dial 1-800-MY-APPLE) for the number in the U.S. and Canada they'll fix your problems with Itunes and your IPOD situation very quickly and in the event they cannot do it over the phone they'll tell you what options you have. You should be fine.
I'm running an Imac 20 Inch with OSX 10.4.9 and love it. Even an older Imac is a giant leap ahead of a PC. Once you buy a Mac never go back! Like the first poster told you you have the best machine and most secure machine out there.
It may take a while to learn how to solve minor issues like this on your own but man it's worth it as there is less aggrivation in the end.
What you really ought to do is call Apple and buy their Apple Care plan for the Ipod, computer etc and be protected and always have 24/7 access to support. Trust me, I would be nowhere without it as I'm still learning OSX versus Windows myself as i bought this one in November.
It's getting easier and easier though. You've made a wise investment in my humble opinion. And no, I don't work for Apple;) But I sure love their products hence a recommendation to others and to you to keep using what you have. ]
why would i possibly say you shouldn't have gotten a mac, idiot! they are the best computers in the world, and the point of an ipod is to use it with a mac! damn pc people....
anyways lol, the computer is not an imach osx, osx is just the operating system. there would be no reason that it is impossible to update it, just go to system preferences-updates. then go to the itunes page on apple.com and download the newest version of itunes. after that you should be able to use it seamlessly with your ipod, i have a 60 gig video too, and if you want since you have a mac, google "handbreak download" download that application and then you can rip any dvd and put it on your ipod.
if that didn't make sense reply and tell me what kind of imac you have (g4, g5, w/ intel) and i'll be able to help you better
hope that solved your problems!!!! ]
