What does the Ring mean?
I have a friend who is a girl and she wears a "promise" ring from her boyfriend on her right ring finger. So I figured that a ring on the right ring finger meant that a girl was taken. Now I have another girl that I like but we're only friends now. She wears a ring in the same place and has been for the 3 months i've known her. Today I find out she doesn't even have a boyfriend! What is the ring for? Why would somebody wear a ring to purposely take themselves off the market if you'll excuse my analogy? And for future reference, what is the significance of girls wearing rings? Thanks

Whichever finger the promise ring is on doesn't even matter. What matters is how the ring is worn. Anyone who wears a promise ring that is taken, has the point of the heart pointing towards their arm. Anyone who is single has the heart pointing to the tip of their fingers. It symbolizes whether your heart is free or taken.
Girls like promise rings because they're cute and cheesy. I personally think it's a sweet way to show that you're with someone you care about.
Just because a girl is wearing a promise ring doesn't mean she's taken. It depends on HOW they wear the ring that shows if they're single or not.

A promise ring is different from an ordinary, every day ring because the promise ring is given to a girl by her boyfriend when they intend to eventually get married. A promise ring WOULD advertise that she's no longer "on the market", but it's perfectly acceptable for girls to wear rings just because they like them.
As for the significance of rings.. things like promise rings, engagement rings, and wedding rings are all used to show that the woman is committed to someone. Other types of rings are worn mainly for fashion puposes.

there's 2 different kinds of promise rings... the one the girl got from her bf is basically like a pre-engagement ring meaning that yes, she is taken. the one that doesn't have a bf is probably waiting for marriage, not to take herself of the market. (haha). anyway, a lot of girls just like wearing pretty rings... don't rely on the rings to tell you things, asking them is better. <3

haha, rings don't have to mean anything. some people like to wear promise rings, that can mean a variety of things... like no sex before marriage, or something of that sort. an engagement ring is also a promise ring. but a lot of girls, myself included, just like to wear rings so don't take it as a sign or anything. the best way to find out is to ask! you can just be like, "hey, is that a promise ring?" and whoever you're talking to will tell you.

Promise rings can mean a variety of things. Sometimes fathers and mothers give them to their daughters for things like a promise of virginity, or guys give them to their girlfriends as a promise to be together or the opposite with a girl giving one to a guy. Or there is also the cases where a guy gives a promise ring to a girl without any promise attached, just as a symbol of love. To answer your question about why would a girl puposefully take herself off the market... she probably wouldn't. That girl you talked to is most likely wearing the ring for a reason other than to be seen as "taken". For your next question of what is the significance of girls wearing rings... that is a very unspecific question. Rings are worn for fashion, as a symbol for a wide variety of things, or just because they feel like it!

A promise ring is a ring where you promise to Jesus that you will stay a virgin until you are married. And some girls (like me) just like to wear rings! Hope I helped!

well, theres something called the silver ring club where girls (and even some guys) promise themselves to jesus, that they wont have sex until they are married. but really, some girls just like wearing rings. it doesnt have to mean anything.
