Question Posted Monday March 26 2007, 5:58 pm

so you know how if the test thing says negative you should take another one just to be sure? if it says positive should you have to take another one too? can it ever "lie" when it says positive?

The only sure-fire 100% error-proof way to know if you're pregnant is to see a doctor. Whether the at-home test is positive or negative, the safest bet is to see a doctor for a test.

But, to answer your question, yes, it is very possible that even if a test says positive, it can be wrong. Same goes for if it's negative.

At-home pregnancy tests have come a long way in the past years, but there are not error-proof. It is very possible to get what is known as a false positive as a result. It is always recommended to repeat the test for affirmation. If you get two different results, a third test is needed. Please keep in mind the at home test mainly search for the most abundant pregnancy hormone, so you're most secure route is to consult a doctor, but the at homes are pretty accurate, so after taking 2 matching tests, you should feel confident in the results. :)

It can be false but take another one to be sure and if the next one says positive or whatever then go see a doctor to get one of those done!

a pregnancy test measures your hormones. the pregnancy hormone can only be released during pregnancy as it comes from the embryo, so if it is there you are pregnant. the reason tests are sometimes negative when you are pregnant is because there may not be enough of the hormone for it to be picked up on by the test, and it only appears after roughly 3 weeks from the onset of pregnancy if you have a regular cycle. however, there are occasions when it is possible for a test to be falsely positive. try looking at this website for more information

Yes it can show a false positive. If you get positive, take it again. :)
