I am going to be getting braces over the summer of 2007. I would like to know if anyone had any tips, hints, or advice about anything about braces.
Thanks in advance.

Brush your teeth every morning and every night. Also floss every or everyother night. You can get special floss just for braces. Never get white, beige, gold, or yellow elastics. It makes your teeth look yellow! I suggest getting red, black, blue, pink, green, navy blue, pretty much any color thats not really that close to a yellowish shade. Also, I suggest you dont use wax. If you do, your mouth won't get used to your braces! So if it hurts, just leave it. You WILL get used to it after a week or so. Using wax will just make your mouth used to a nice, smooth surface. Then once ur cut it healed, you take the wax off, and you get another cut. Well, I hope I helped!! If you have any questions just ask for my email and I will give it to you, I do not like to post it publicly, although I think it might be on my column. Good luck with your braces!
_wishes answered Friday March 23 2007, 2:23 pm: I had braces for about a year, th worst thing is if you get food caught in them like at shcool, so I would advice to always check after eating. Also brush your teeth at least twice a day and not just a quick clean and a reall good clean as its quite dangerous if placque builds up as you might get holes in your teeth, also use mouth wash after cleaning.
Good luck, there really no hassle at all once you get pas the first few days [ _wishes's advice column | Ask _wishes A Question ]
softballchickx28 answered Thursday March 22 2007, 4:01 pm: Well... People say to get invisible braces and stuff, but really thats not the way to go. Why??... because if stuff gets stuck in them you can totally tell, and it is wicked gross to be talking to somone with like lets say spinach in their teath. EWW!!! Also when picking your colors NEVER get white, same reason as before.
cHaSsi3x answered Thursday March 22 2007, 1:32 am: i had braces for 3 years. i recommend doing exactly what they tell you. a lot of the times i'd miss appointments and i wouldn't wear my rubber bands when told, etc. and then i ended up having them 2 years longer than i needed them. brush them a lot and keep them clean. good luck!

orphans answered Wednesday March 21 2007, 11:23 pm: I've had mine for 4 years already, so trust me. :] Seriously, brush them regulary and don't fall behind, because if alot of plaque gets on your teeth.. your teeth will start chipping off. Brushing = a MUST! Um.. they'll be sore at first, but you will get used to it (even if you think you won't) just eat soft foods the first few days.. and use wax the first few days. If you get yellow braquets, it will make you teeth look yellow (ew!) and if you get white, it might fade to a yellow. Just warning you! They tell you that you can't eat chips/gum/etc. but they are lying! lol, you can eat anything you want to (after you've had your braces for awhile) And about smiling, your smile will be a little different and might look funky at first, but wait and it'll get normal. It will feel TIGHT so be prepared. It'll go away after a few days. Anything else? Just ask! I'm practically an expert lol. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
