Okay, my jack russel just had one puppy. So, he was born today, and there's a problem. The mother won't let him feed and kicks him. So we tried to hold her down to let him feed and she'll just squirm till she gets let loose. So we went to the vet and she said that she just might not have the mother instinct, considering that she's only one year. So she told us that we'll have to make the mother feed at least once a day and use formula for the rest of the day. And also, since the mother won't keep her warm, we have to keep her on a heating pad to keep him warm, and we also have to wet his anus and penis ti stimulate him to make him go to the bathroom. So if we continue to have to manually do this to the puppy, what are the odss of him living?

DearAbby92 answered Sunday March 18 2007, 12:08 am: Your jack russel is just a puppy herself, and isn't ready to be a mother, which explains this behavior. Listen to exactly what the vet says, and keep trying to get your dog to be more motherly. She'll pick up on it, hopefully. It's nature. If you take care of the puppy properly like a mother would, than he stands a very good chance of living.
