Cutting myself

Question Posted Sunday March 11 2007, 8:14 pm

I was depressed... so I cut my wrist with a razor
i'm going to the doctors soon....
is there any way they can tell if it's self inflicted?
will they tell my parents?
what can happen other than scars with my wrist in the future or right now??
is there any disease thing... ?
13/f
i cut my wrists on purpose with a razor by the way....
i just wanted to get attention... I CRAVE ATTENTION!
From people at school... etc.
so ya... i guess what i'm trying to ask is... if they will tell my parents... and whether the doctor can tell...
and any additional information would be so appreciated.
thank you!!!!!!!!!<333333333

firstly cutting your wrist isnt a very good way to get attention.there are easier ways to get rid of your anger eg go to the gym and take it out on a boxing bag. if you want attention find something your good at and get really good at it like singing, acting or some sort of sport. lots of people will be proud of you watching you perform and stuff. if your shy maybe writtings your thing express yourself in words not physically.
secondly yes the doctor can usually tell, intentionally cutting your wrist is pretty ovious. i went through that faze too, its been four years and the scars are still quite ovious.
it depends on how badly you cut yourself, you are leaving yourself open to infections and if infections get really bad it can lead to really bad scaring and in some cases amputation.
depending on how deep you cut yourself it can also lead to permanant muscle or nerve damage. as long as your parents arent there the doctor shouldnt tell them.
finally i dont recomend cutting yourself, ask yourself who you want attention from if its your friends just talk to them and tell them whats goin on, if its not your friends dont waste yourtime. hope that helps xoxo love sally

Well, usually they can tell because when you cut yourself on purpose its usually a straight cut, but when you cut yourself by accident its usually not sraight its kind of like well, jagged i guess, im not sure how to put it, i used the theosarus! Depending on the information you tell the doctor he may or may not tell your parents usually they will keep it confidential unles they feel the need to tell them so. Theres a medicine then can also give you called anti-depresent or other medications to help you. If you crave attention, well, instead of cutting yourself, go to the mall and dance like nobody is watching or in school do the same or just sing, that will get you attention ( i love singing and dancing in school, i dont care what people think haha). Besides you shouldnt cut your self, it can cause major infections like blood infections and i really dont want you doing that, because depending on how it happened you may end up doing it again and again i nthe future. Think about all the people who love you so much like your parents and friends, how do you think it will effect them? You dont want them to be worried about you at all. I really hope you change your mind about this and make the right choice!! I really really hope i helped and if all things go the way you dont want it to go, maybe you could go see a therapist, ive heard thy can help you! I really realllly hope i helped!

Yes they can usually tell. Accidental cuts are usually jagged. Razors leave a pretty smooth cut...for lack of a better explanation.

Weather they tell your parents or not depends on your age and weather or not they feel you could be a suicide risk. If you talk to the doctor about your depression he/she may just tell mom you are depressed without going into detail. They may want to give you medication for it. That is not a bad thing. Doctors will keep in confidence what you tell them. If you don't tell them they will be more likely to say something to your parents. So get the help while you have the opportunity.

There really isn't much will happen to your wrist other than scaring in the future. You could very well get infection in any fresh cuts. Infections can get really gross. You want to avoid that at all costs. Please don't do it again.

There are many safer ways to get peoples attention. Dye your hair green or wear crazy outfits. Just don't hurt yourself. You are only hurting yourself, and in the long run, the other people at school probably could care less. Believe me, it gets old after awhile. Be more creative. :)
