My house is always a mess. I'm the one who has to clean it a

Question Posted Sunday February 25 2007, 2:56 pm

In the house I live in with my family...I'm the one who does most, if not all the cleaning. My house is almost always a mess. I know I can't always clean the house when it needs cleaning. I'm sixteen, in 10th & I have a boyfriend now. It almost seems impossible sometimes to manage all that. Sometimes I feel like I don't have any parents, I have 2 middle aged kids...meaning my parents...not to mention my little brother (hes 14). I don't know what to do. My parents are always nagging me about my grades so I've been thinking of asking if we could make a little deal or comprimise...that if I were to keep my grades up...they would keep the house clean as much as they can. I don't even know how to ask that of them. I'm afraid they'll just think of some reason they won't be able to keep their side of the bargin. They are overweight. But not to the point they can't clean the house every once and a while when they get home from work.

I did a lot of the housework at your age. It did not really ruin my life. I hated it, sure. How many hours a day are we talking about here? If your parents are lazy and messy that is gross, but it is their business. If you have an hour of chores a day, it is not excessive. Do you do all the laundry, dishes, cooking, bills, work for income, etc. ? I doubt you do more than an hour a day. Deal with it. You have three more years and then guess what? You can move out and work your butt off for at least eight hours a day for minimum wage for a boss that does not care if you live or die. Then you can use your hard-earned paycheck to live in a crappy apartment you share with a messy roommate and do all the cooking and cleaning. Too harsh? Maybe. Maybe not. It is reality for many young people. You are not the parent and you do not have two kids. Quit being so cocky and go do your chores...Hee-Hee.

this is completely unfair to you. teenagers are not meant to have so much stress put on you. sit them down and say that if you had less rooms to clean then you could have more time to study. maybe you could each have like 2 rooms to clean, including your borther. there is no reason you should have to do all the chores. the most you should have to do is your bedroom a bathroom and maybe wipe up the counters in the kitchen. or maybe everyone in the house could have different chores, like your brother could take out all the garbages in the house, you could vaccum the floors your mom could clean the kitchen and your dad could mop or clean the bathrooms and everyone does their own room. also se if you can set aside one day a week for cleaning. a sunday wouldn't be a bad idea. i hope i helped. good luck.

I think it is a good idea to try the compromise but that is all you can do is try it because you have to be realistic about it if your parents are messy and you siblings are messy than noone cares if your parents don't keep the order and make it a rule to keep the house clean than who will. You are the odd ball n your family not that you are not right but o one shares the same belief that you share abouit tidiness they are nasty peole they are nasty people and don't think just beacuse you see it differently you are going to change them. I say try the compromise and if that doesn't work than stop cleaning and see how they like that and when it gets too nasty tell them now that is how i feel when you all make the kind of messes you make. And, if that doesn't change them they are just set in their ways and you are gonna have to get your own home or your dorm room before you can have a space tidy to your liking.

I love your idea of making the comprimise. Try that and if they say "sure" but they don't keep their side of the bargain, then try to switch of with your brother. Have him clean up for a while, then it's your turn. That way you won't have to do that much cleaning. I really hope I helpled.
