No you dont have to have a paid account. Here is how you can become a moderator:
Have you been rated five times in the last 30 days?
Is your average rating above 4?
Have you been a member for at least thirty days?
Have you ever been banned?
Have you been a updated your column in the last week?
Thats the questions you have to look for if your rating falls below 3.8 or get kicked off you will lose your moderator status.
