Okay, I have a problem... I love to dance, it's a great way to get excercise, but here's the sitch... I don't know how to move right. I look like an idiot at dances because I just don't know how to do these things! I have asked my parents if I can have dancing lessons, but they said no because the only place in town teaches suggestive dancing and has their girls wear skimpy costumes. How can I learn a modern style of dancing that is not advertising, but still looks cool? (Here's a hint as to how clean I want it to be: I am a Mormon.) Please help!
I never took hip hop classes (probably the dancing your refering too) I only took ballet and tap. That taught me how to move to the music, feel the rhythm, and improvise. Music is universal, if you can really hear the music, you can do any type of dancing. So ask your parents if you can take a ballet class maybe. Or see if you can comprimise, and talk to the dance teacher about your religion and what is and isnt appropiate for you to wear.
In the mean time you can watch music videos to learn some new moves.
DancinCutie08 answered Monday February 19 2007, 4:15 pm: try yogalates (sp?) its a mix of yoga and pilates. it will give you the same sort of movement as modern dancing (modern is a real earthy movemently kind of dance) but with a great workout and you can wear what you want and there are no "dances" so there is no fear of skimpy clothes. this will teach you rhthym and movement in a safe sort of way. also buy or rent tapes to learn at your house.. I know you can buy alot of salsa dancing and what not tapes. [ DancinCutie08's advice column | Ask DancinCutie08 A Question ]
