for a background color that goes all the way from the left of the page to the right, do this:

<div style="background-color:the color you want">
stuff that is in a colored box
</div>

for a box that has dimensions you specify, do this:

<table bgcolor="color you want" width="width in pixels">
<tr>
<td>
the stuff in a box
</td>
</tr>
</table>

You dont need a html to make a background colour for the text , go to tools, then click on text
under what font you want it says
colour - for the actual text
and next to it it says background - for the background behind the text.

Hope I helped,
skyler-sadie.piczo.com - thats mine!
