smoking pot? and alcohol...

Question Posted Friday February 16 2007, 10:51 pm

today i smoked my first joint. nothing happened except my pupils got REALLY big and i felt jittery. then about 20 minutes after, i jugged a freaking beer within a minute. now that i think back about it, i did it only to dispite my parents, and it was a real immature & dumb decision to make. my question is, is how can i control myself from not doing it again? now that ive tried it, i know im going to want to do it again because im not going to be scared next time it's around me.

also, i've noticed my attitude has changed once i got into highschool. last year i was a straight A student and was such a good, stable, smart kid. but now i feel like im throwing my life away... i drink when i can and could care less about school. how come my attitude changed so much, i dont hang out with different kids either; it's just we discovered "alcohol".

another thing; i've noticed ever since the first time i drank, i've only gotten drunk off of hard liquor (maybe 3 times a month). how can i control this habit?!? it seems like nothings fun anymore unless i drink! and i dont want to start partying this hard especially cause it's only my freshmen year!

15/f in need of desperate help! im finally noticing im throwing my life away :[

To answer your first question. You can easily stop yourself from smoking another joint. You've done it once, and you're not addicted. If you know you don't want to do it again, you can easily say no. Some people like to make it a bigger deal than it actually is. If it's around you of course you're going to want to do it but you can stop yourself. No one is making you do it and no one is pressuring you. If they are, you have to handle that.

My attitude has changed once I got into highschool. It's normal and every teenager goes through it but it doesn't have to be a neggative change. You're still a smart kid but you're letting yourself get like this and you're letting everything slip away and that's your personal choice. Everyone goes to parties, drinks and such but that's just highschool. We're going to do stupid things that we'll regret but that's where you learn from. Change is normal but just don't let if effect you that much.

I don't really know what you mean about your last question. How can you control not getting drunk of hard liquor? Well, you really can't. You shouldn't drink it if you don't want to. Whenever I go to parties, I see people just drinking all at once and they have a beer after beer. If you REALLY want to drink that badly, take it slow and don't drink just to get fu@ked up. Things are fun without drinking. It really bothers me when people say that. One of my friends told me she can't have fun without alchocol and that's just pathetic and not true. You're caught up in the party scence and that's all you care about now.

If you feel like you're messing up right now, fix it. Don't let it get to a point where it's too late and you end up doing something horrible. You're the only one that can change for youself and that can help yourself. If you're not willing to do that, I don't know what else to tell you. Drink less, have more fun & study. Life's too short to mess up and just expirience things as they come.

You're not alone, I'm also a fifteen year old female who has been in your place. Ever seen the movie Thirteen? Well that was me when I was that age. I was only in middle school and all I wanted to was party with my friends. Then I came to the realization that I wanted to have a life after highschool and straightened up. It wasn't easy, I had to find new friends and new interests. At first I had that nothing is fun unless I party feeling but then after holding out for a while I became more and more able to have a good time with out it. It depends a lot on who you are with, you have to find other people who have a good time without drugs or alcohol. It sounds like you new friends are needed, ones who aren't going to put you in tempting situations. As for interest in school, it may come back once you get things figured out. Getting into clubs or sports is a good way to build and interest in school, and also setting goals is good. Give yourself a standard to live up to. I am fond of mantras also. Come up with a saying that is motivational that you can say to yourself every morning when you wake up. I say to myself, Today is a clean slate. It's cheesy but it puts you in the right mindstate.

I can think of two reasons why you might want to keep drinking & smoking. one, because most of your friends do it & since you hang out with your friends, your going to want to do certain things so that you dont feel left out. or maybe you had a bad day / things arent going your way and this is your way to make it all better and solve situations. i know types of people like you in my school, and if i ever got the chance to talk to him i would probably ask them where do they plan on getting in life ? does drinking & smoking involve getting somewhere to accomplish what they wanna be ? im guessing no so why do those kind of things. bascially what im trying to say think about where you want to be after college, what do you want to be doing. when you see these types of things around you, just simply tell yourself its not for you, its not going to help you, its certainly not making you feel any better. also try patching things uhp with your parents, then maybe you`ll feel better about yourself. another thing is that if you go hang out with your friends and you know theres gonna be smoking and drinking then tell him you have other plans. catch uhp on some school work or something. just know those kind of things dont get you anywhere.
