Question Posted Wednesday February 14 2007, 5:09 pm
So for my birthday I got a sewing machine, i'm happy because I wanted one! I know the basics of sewing like how to make pillows and how to thread the machine and stuff. But thats the bad part, I only know how to make pillows. My dad for part of my present also went out and got me all this stuff for making a pattern we bough in the rag shop. It's to make like this tote bag. I thought it was going to be really beginner friendly and all, but they say all this stuff in the instructions and when I looked at the papers it was so confusing it was like in another language. I feel bad because my parents spent all this money. How can I learn how to sew and do patterns??
Additional info, added Wednesday February 14 2007, 5:09 pm: Also in the instructions they use all these sewing words that i have no idea what they mean.. Vests, t-shirts, and basic dresses are good starter patterns, and there is a reason the company is called Simplicity. The patterns are very easy to follow. I am fairly experienced with sewing, and I still rely on their patterns. The patterns also have a section with a glossary that tells you what sewing terms they use and what they mean. I also recommend the links posted in the other response to your question. Those will help quite a bit. [ blwinteler's advice column | Ask blwinteler A Question ]
