I think I may be pregnant

Question Posted Saturday February 10 2007, 1:38 am

This may be a bit long. Bear with me.

There have been quite a few times my boyfriend and I have had unprotected sex. Well my period is usually like clockwork and right now I'm 10 days late.

Well when I was, I think, 5 days late I went to the doctor and had a pregnancy test done. It was negative. The doctor did say the tests weren't 100% accurate, so that didn't help me out at all.

Well now, I'm 10 days late. I took a pregnancy test last night (The Clearblue Easy Digital Pregnancy Test) and it came back Not Pregnant. I'm still not sure if this thing is right though. Friends of mine said, even though they were like 8 weeks along, tests would still show them as not pregnant. Has anyone else had this happen before?

Lately, I've been having these dull pains in my stomach lately, and sometimes they're really sharp. (Not like cramps at all). I've also been having a lot of discharge (sorry if that's TMI). I actually thought my period had shown up one morning but wasn't the case. My boobs are also sore, especially around the outside and I keep burping a lot (even though I only drink water). My appetite has increased greatly, but I always feel nauseous after I eat. It's strange. I'm not sure what's going on.

Could someone please help me?

Also, when is the best time to take a pregnancy test?

Thanks.
Kayla

The best time to take a test is in the morning. But you have alot of the symtoms that show that you could very well be pregnant. Also if you are craving certain foods that you have never eaten before or if one food you have always loved just grosses you out. But it really does sound like it. When I was pregnant with my 1st I took 3 doctor tests that were negitive and I dont know how many store bought ones before I found out I was. I think I was like 2 months pregnant when I finally knew or not. Even though I was pretty sure that I was missing 2 periods and all. But keep seeing it can be a mystery! Good Luck!

The best time to take a pregnancy test is first thing in the morning. I suggest you stop having unprotected sex - the discharge could be from an STD, which is something you can get if you don't use protection. Do you *want* a kid? Are you *trying* to get pregnant? Do you *think* he's going to stick around? Sorry to be so rude but seriously if you're not ready for a kid, you need to use some type of protection.

It's possible you are just late. Have you been really stressed? Of course, because you think you may be pregnant. Stress can cause your period to come late.

I would say your chances are slim that you are pregnant because you have already had 2 negative tests, however a false negative twice in a row isn't impossible. It may be that you don't have enough of the pregnancy hormone in your urine to read on the test. From what I understand, false negatives are more common than false positives due to what I just told you about the hormone.

Play it safe. Wait for your period to be at least 2 weeks late to ensure the tests read accurately. Try another urine test. Something like EPT. If that comes negative and you are still having doubts, go for a blood test to be certain.

I am pregnant, and I never had symptoms such as cramping or pains in my stomach. Those are actually warning signs during pregnancy. I did have tender breasts and increased appetite. Nausea didn't set in until around 9 weeks of pregnancy. I was very irritable and very fatigued. So I was either a grouch or asleep. When I took my home test, it showed positive in less than 30 seconds, when results could be read in 3 minutes.
HOWEVER, every woman's experience is different. I'm just letting you in on my own experience.

hmm yeah it sounds to me as if you were.
But I've never been in this type of situation.
A lot of signs are there, but your period
could just be really late. I'd go back to the
doctor in a week, to get another more
accurate test.

I completely understand how you feel. I once though I could've been pregnant, and believe me, it's not the best thought you could have. But, you have to look at this objectively. If you think, and know that there's a chance you could possibly be pregnant, then don't even waste another day wondering. Go to a clinic like planned parent hood, or to your gyno. and get a urine test. They can usually tell withing 10 days or so after you've had sex whether you're pregnant or not. Get this issue off your shoulders; it's not exactly the most comfortable thought. For future reference, always, always use a condom. If you'd like you could also get a prescription for birth control pills (depending on where you live, it's easy to get one). Some of my friends actually do both. Also, later on if you ever have the slightest chance of being pregnant, go ahead and take Plan B or something similar just in case. Please take care of yourself.

I felt like that too, and I actually got my period around 8olcock on the 9th. So, it wasn't pregnancy. If you're completely unsure, don't buy a storebought pregnancy test. Those don't always tell you the truth, as you've found out. My boyfriend's biological mother works out the nearby hospital and she said that urine pregnancy tests were 98% accurate, and blood pregnancy tests were 100& accurate. Get one of those. =)
