Sabine answered Thursday February 8 2007, 11:21 pm: If it's something like Tums, that's made of calcium carbonate, it likely won't affect you. You can only absorb a certain amount of calcium at one time due to limitations on Vitamin D. Any amount you can't absorb will be excreted in your stool. Any amount you do absorb that your body can't use will be excreted in your urine. That can cause kidney stones over time. In the short run, you probably won't have any worse effects than possibly rebound heartburn (because of stimulating the calcium channels, which turns on your acid pumps). To be sure, call poison control. 1-800-222-1222.

If it has magneseum in it you may experience changes in mental status, nausea, diarrhea, appetite loss, muscle weakness, difficulty breathing, extremely low blood pressure, and irregular heartbeat :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
