Hey. Does anyone know of a website or websites were they have a list of current writing contests 9poetry, fiction, novels, essays, etc.) and like what the theme is and what the fee (if any) is and all that stuff. If anyone knows of a website that lists writing contests please let me know! Thanks!
You should never pay anyone a cent to enter a contest or to get a prize. Unless the contest is sponsored by a newspaper or legit company that requires a processing fee that all entrants must pay never send money to enter any contest.
Make sure you avoid poetry.com. While the site does indeed publish people on the Web they are not selective and seem only to want to sell you books of your own work back to you.
Are you looking just to have your writing seen, enjoyed and published? If so there's a ton of legitimate organizations that will do so. Some newpapers (especially the local ones with tons of flier door to door) have bureuas where they print feature stories, poetry, short stories etc by teens.
You may want to check out the following Web sites www.teenink.com. where they have ten writing contests with various categories and no entry fees. Click contests on their main page.
Ypp.net is also excellent as they have an annual contest with several different categories but will publish your writing right now on their site and in four different e-zines. If you work is really good it can be picked up by a wire service or newpaper that they are affiliated with.
You might also want to log onto ypress.org which employs teens in the Indianapolis area to be reporters in a special section they print in the Indianapolis Star. They have contests now and then.
That site may only employ teens from the indianapolis area however, I've known them to be able to help people find writing contests and places to publish their work online or in the newspaper.
I googled "writing contests" and those are the top 3 answers. Perhaps try google first next time. A lot of columnists would prefer it, and you'd get your answer a lot faster!
