what is the difference between regular pre-university and advanced placement pre-university?

Advanced Placement classes, depending if you pass the exam gives you college credit. I'm currently in World History AP, which is the college equivalent of World Civilizations, so if I pass that, I won't have to take a certain numbers of hours of that class in college. :]
