If you're just starting out, chances are you aren't going to be able to run a mile in under 7 minutes. To do so, I suggest trying to run everyday, even if it's just on a treadmill.
I don't think there are any specific "tips" about running a mile, just practice, stretch, breath the right way, and hydrate yourself.
Good luck. =P

There's no trick to becoming faster unless you get into shape & practice, practice, practice. Learn the proper way to breathe (if you don't know already) to help you get through that mile faster. Get out there & run a mile everyday with your friend until tryouts. Time eachother & set new goals each time & by the time tryouts come, you should be fine. Good luck!

well, im a 7th grade track star and i no that this is hard for you.i just got my physical yesterday and did great but tryouts are on monday and the most ive run in past 6 months, at one time, is 2 miles.i ran that in the time it took me to run 3.1 miles the year before.what i would suggest is strecht as much as you possibly can, best if you do it every day up until tryouts, and then run a mile every day and time yourself each time and work towards beating your time for each new day.

there isnt really to much more you can do except hope for the best.hope this helps atleast a pinch:)
