You could get herpes if they had them when they took a sip but they would have a cold sore on their lip most likely. Other than the average cold, there's not much you can get.

Believe it or not, I contracted oral herpes (HSV-1) from my mother as a child because we shared drinks and eating utensils occasionally. They SAY herpes doesn't spread like that but my mother and I never, never, EVER kissed on the lips growing up (my family things that's completely inappropriate so there wasn't even a "slip-up" time, trust me). I don't know how "rare" this case might be but I'd say it isn't as uncommon as people believe.

Yes, you can get colds, flus, and mono from sharing drinks. I'm also here to tell you that you can contract herpes, too, if the person carries that disease.

And, no, there doesn't have to be a herpes sore or lesion present for the person to be contagious. Unfortunately, the virus can spread from the lip tissue without anyone ever being able to visibly see it.

The only risks you really have is getting a contagious sickness that she might have (mono, flu, cold, etc).
