i just recently started tanning in a bed and do u know what the difference is between a lay down and stand up bed? and when they offer the lotion what good does the lotion they offer at the tanning salon do anyways?
i personally don't use the lotion just because its like 40 bucks a bottle and i think thats kind of ridiculous. its just supposed to open up your pores so that your skin can take in the tan for better results. i would suggest that if you will be tanning for a long time, like a month or 2 or more, don't get the lotion. you will see great results without it. however, if u have a short amount of time to tan, like only a few weeks, i would consider using it for fast results. [my mom owns a tannign salon] Now the difference between a lay down & stand up is in a lay down the bulbs are mostly projected on the arms, face, stomach, and legs. in a stand up, the underarms, and feet will be tanned as well. mostly the only difference is that a lay down is for napping. And for the lotion - omg. you MUST wear it. Have you ever heard of melanoma? [skin cancer?] well, 1/2 of these cases have to do with people not using lotion or using oils. To further your tan you need to use it! I recommend using a bronzer because it will make you brown easilier except the only problem is that it will go away in about a week. if you use an accelerator then it will give you a nice tan over an extended time period. i hope that helped. but don`t go tanning without lotion anymore!!!! <333 [ Not_To_Worry_x3's advice column | Ask Not_To_Worry_x3 A Question ]

First off, stand up beds usually have more powerful lamps, making your session a lot shorter than a lie down bed. Regular horizontal beds have between 30 & 50 100-watt lamps, while stand up beds typically use 40+ 160-watt lamps. With these stronger lamps you can get the same results in 9-15 minutes instead of the full 20 in a lie down bed. Also, stand up beds are more likely to not miss any areas that might be shadowed & missed in a horizontal bed.
Horizontal beds are usually chosen over stand ups for the fact that it is still the most popular way of tanning. Most people would rather relax when they come in & tan rather than stand up. But it's all about your personal comfort & convenience.
Onto lotions: The lotions they offer at the tanning salons are specifically for indoor tanning. You are no good walking in with a bottle of lotion with an SPF of 25 made for outdoor tanning. (Don't bring outdoor tanning oil either. They ruin the beds.) Although the indoor tanning lotion does not contain sunscreen & can't protect you from overexposure, it's important to use it to keep your skin hydrated. Without lotion, your skin will become dry, making it much harder to tan. Since most lotions help stimulate the production of melanin, you can tan much easlier & keep the tan longer. Also, some include self-acting bronzers & maximizers which can help you achieve a tan/bronze look in a shorter period of time. To sum it all up - the lotions are an important part in the tanning process & provide you with better results.
