tight curls --> loose curls

Question Posted Monday January 29 2007, 3:33 pm

if you have very tight "bouncy" small curls, is there anyway you can make them looser? for example from this

(well not exactly, but you get the point)

and also, is there anyway of doing that WITHOUT having to straighten AND curl it every single day?

Thank you!

well i don't have so much experience with curly hair, but what i would do if i were you is i would just put it in big rollers! the ones you see people walking around in before they go to sleep. not necessarily BIG ones, but just any kind of curler/roller =] and they sell this stuff that my friend was talking about.. called curl relaxant or relaxer.. and she was saying how she loves it because it makes her hair not so crazy and curlyyy.. so go to the grocery store or a hair salon and pick some up =] a good idea would be to ask a professional.. like someone at a hair salon. i would try the curlers first though =] good luck!!!

curl it in tight bouncy curls the night before, then sleep on it. the curls will be much more relaxed and loose. also, its very convenient because your hair will be ready to go the next morning!

you could try a curl relaxer. they sell them at most stores, like walmart. i dont have any specific names, because i dont have any personal experience with curl relaxing products, but some of my friends use a curl relaxer, and it works quite well. usually, its just a product that comes in a bottle the you massage into your hair. sorry i couldnt be a little more helpful with product names, but good luck!

Perming would work. But when it grows out, you'll hate it.

So, a less-permanent (actually quite temporary) solution would be to wash with a nice shampoo (preferably one that moisturizes like Pantene smooth and sleek; it'll tame frizz), and get yourself a nice roundbrush (not huge, medium-sized is good) and blow-dry it. Use a product like Frizzease or a straightening creme first. That will give you a nice, soft wave.

For more free-flowing waves, put some hairgel in slightly damp hair (doesn't really matter which kind; I love Herbal Essences cause they're cheap!) and braid your hair.. maybe 5 or 6 sections? You'll want braids about a half-inch wide. Keep them on for a couple hours at least. Overnight is even better. Once you're ready to take them out, loosen them with your fingers, NOT A BRUSH! Finish with a little hairspray and you're set!
