but make sure that for toe touches, when your stretching your middle splits, TURN OUT YOUR LEGS. hopefully you know what this term means. instead of simply sitting in the middle straddle, turn your feet out so that you feel a deeper stretch throughout your legs. itll be harder to stretch but it is essential for your toe touches. i learned this the hard way. i had my middle splits alll the way down and had the worst toe touches. i learned that it was because i had a really bad turn out.
another GREAT way to work on a better turn out is to sit with your legs apart, turned out, but not nearly as far apart as they go. place your hands tightly around one leg, palms down. one hand on each side so that you are turned slightly on an angle. (this is done one leg at a time). now lift your leg without moving any other part of your body. its going to be hard the first time you try it. do around 10 reps and as you get better, move your legs out further and further.
lastly, it's important to have strong quads in order to have a good toe touch, so do quad stretches such as squats. these give amazing results!
phillysprincesss answered Monday January 29 2007, 2:47 am: I was a cheerleader for 8 years and a jv coach for 3 years. My 5 year old has done 1 year of cheerleading and been dancing since she was 2. There are a few stretches you can do to help your split. Sit on the floor in a straddle. Make sure your legs are straddled as fas as possible without hurting badly. Stretch your body to the right with your arms over your head and your torso and head laying on your leg grab your toes with your hands and holde this for a count 20. Repeat with the left side. Then stretch out in front, the same way with your arms stretched as far in front of you as possible. Eventually you will be able to lay flat on the floor doing this. Do this just a few times a day. You will feel a lil pulling and burning don't overdo it or you will pull something. If you don't usually stretch you will be sore the first few days. Keep practicing your split and see how much closer you are getting to the ground everyday. You can also have someone gently push on your back while doing your split but not hard just very slightly and it will stretch you out more. Also while standing up have someone stretch your leg in the air. It's best to stand against a wall when doing this again do this gently so you don't pull anything. As for your toe touch these stretches help with splits and straddles and you need a straddle for a toe touch. When I was cheerleading we did 2 lil hops b4 the toetouch, this helped us get more height i don't know how but it worked. Start practicing by doing this then you will eventually be able to do it stcnding and going into a toetouch on first jump. Keep your back straight when doing this jump. Don't bend your body to your toes, bring your toes up to your bady. Also practicing on a trampoline if possible is a great help. You should have your split and toe touch way before April if your practice enough. Good luck :-) [ phillysprincesss's advice column | Ask phillysprincesss A Question ]
yourrtrustyhelpline answered Sunday January 28 2007, 10:56 pm: by april, you should be able to get the splits with a simple stretch. stand up straight and lift one leg up and rest your foot onto something that`s about waist height. if you aren`t that flexible, start with something a little lower. stretch down for a while, then switch. do this until your nose can touch your knee. then, use something higher to rest your foot on and do the same thing. do this every day until you can do the splits. once you can do the splits, make sure that you can every day, and keep stretching. as for the toe touch, i`m not exactly sure what that is, so yea. haha. but i hope i helped.
