I lied to my doctor.

Question Posted Thursday January 25 2007, 8:02 pm

I lied to my doctor when he asked me if i was sexually active i told him i wasn't. He did a UTI test, and it came back positive, but he said there was blood in my urine. He repeatedly asked me if i was a virgin, and i kept saying yes. (im not) Does that mean i could have an STD ? or is something serious going on? And is it impossible to get an enternal STD even if you use a condom everytime?

1.) A UTI is a Urinary Tract Infection, not an STD. I cannot tell you what your test results could be because I am not a gynecologist. But you can call the office (or wait till they call with your results).
2.) Condoms aren't 100% effective, meaning it is still possible to get an STD even if you wear protection everytime.
3.) You need to be completely honest when your doctor asks you questions. I know you said you didn't want your parents to find out. But this is your health. Whatever you discuss between you & your doctor is kept confedential unless you have a life threatening situation. Otherwise, it's illegal for your doctor to discuss your history or any information shared during your visit. Next time, be honest. That way your doctor can do the appropriate testing & catch things right away if you were ever to have anything.

The doctor needs to know the truth. I know that you don't want anyone finding out that you have been sexually active, but the doctor is the only one who can help you. If you ask him to keep it confidential, maybe he can tell you what is wrong. Besides, if it was an STD, would you rather go without a cure until you were 18 or tell your parents and get help right away? Yes, it is possible to get an STD with a condom, even though a condom is much safer. You should tell your doctor.
