Because nowadays EVERYONE wanrts to be supermodel thin and that could just as easily become the case for you (not saying that it is). About 4% of women have bulimia and 1% anorexia nervosa so that's pretty scary. And about 20% without treatment die so heh.
Anywhos, just reassure her that you want to lead a healthy lifestyle and don't want to end up in obseity which leads to other problems such as diabetes and heart related problems.
You can eat beef but I wouldn't indulge on it. Eat lots of protein and healthy food such as veggies and fruits. Don't skip any meals and to resist from grabbing tons of food, eat small healthy snacks in between meals. Don't eat someting after 8 pm, drink lots of water, and of course, ignore the junk foods.
Exercising is a bg part in leading a healthier lifestyle. Soooo exercise at least 3 times a week. Run 3 times a week (Start off with a fast walk, jog, then increase your speed to a running pace over few weeks...not minnutes but weeks.) Weight lifting is also great because it burns a lot of fat while helpng you develope muscles. Personally, I like pilatteess!!! Haha
Don't measure your weight lose on the scale because it really doesn't work. Because as you work out, your muscle increases resulting in a same or a slightly heavier weight. Instead use a tape measurer [ ductape_n_roses's advice column | Ask ductape_n_roses A Question ]

Tell her that you want to inprove your health and you'd feel better about yourself if you lost a few pounds. Let her know (and remind her periodically) that you'll do it the healthy way, by eating. Just improve WHAT you're eating- whole wheat bread instead of Wonder bread, ask Mom and Dad to buy healthier snacks, 1% or skim milk instead of whole, etc. And beef is okay to eat, just trim away fat first and use lean hamburger.
Your BMI is roughly 23.9 right now, which is healthy. I think the best thing you could do is just excerise moderately most days, like running or walking. Go walking with friends... its so much fun, you forget you're exercising!
By exercising, you'll tone up your muscles, release endorphins, and feel better about yourself in general. This, combined with better eating habits, will put you where you want to be.
