If you look marijuana up on wikipedia or in any respectable text, you will find that we have canabinoid receptors in our brains which are similar to opioid receptors (which are affected by narcotics). The THC binds with a canabinoid receptor and stimulates a nerve pathway. You don't get high due to lack of oxygen. Smoking nicotine and taking narcotics also can decrease oxygen, but their primary effect is on the receptors in our brains. Also, I have seen no evidence the THC affects our immune systems. If it did, would it be prescribed for cancer and AIDS?
Sorry I can't give your question a direct answer. I couldn't find any research on it. I'm just writing to let you know that previous advice you received may not be factually sound.
