Psychedelic novels

Question Posted Saturday January 13 2007, 9:56 pm

I was wondering if anyone could lead me towards some good psychedelic reads.Sort of in the vein of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.Just something that's generally nonsensical and trippy.Nothing futuristic though.

There's a graphic novel called "Lost Girls" written by Alan Moore, and illustrated by Melinda Gebbie, which is about the sexual adventures of Dorthy Gale (Wizard of Oz), Alice (Alice in Wonderland), and Wendy Darling (Peter Pan). From what I've read about it, it seems like a very trippy book. However, there's sexual content in it, and as I'm not sure how old you are, this may not be what you're looking for.
If you hadn't said "No futuristic", I would recommend the Logan trilogy, written by William F. Nolan, which is really good dystopic sci-fi. But since it's set in the 23rd century, that kinda counts as futuristic... ^^;;;
Oh, one other book is "Through the Looking-Glass", which is a continuation of Alice's adventures, this time in a "Looking-glass world". If you haven't read that one, it's well worth your time.

Two you might enjoy:

"On the Road" by Jack Kerouac (lots of pot-smoking going on here...a trip to Mexico...This is actually a well-respected novel).

"Trout Fishing in America" by Richard Brautigan. When I was young, I thought this was great...Read between the lines, look for the unexpected..."Trout Fishing" may or may not have something to do with fish.(!)

A third: have you read "The Hobbit"? A lot of people love the whole series but I just never could get into it. gigi

You may or may not like House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski.
