piercing

Question Posted Saturday January 13 2007, 12:59 pm

i have a blood clotting disorder and i want to get my tounge piersed.

my mom said i could be a issue
but were not docters!

and i cant check with a real docter cause my mom said shes not letting me get it piersed just yet untill im older (she thinks it looks tackey) and so i just would like to know about body piersings and how it will effect me.
i personally dont think something as little as a piersing will make a serious issue.

can a body piersing be harmful least i have a blood clotting disorder? ( the only piersing ive gotten is my ears (2ce) and attempted my belly button but it got infected badly)

I have a blood clotting disorder too, Von Willebrand's.

Yes, a piercing, especially a tongue (it's a blood sponge!) is dangerous. When you decide to pierce it, go to the doctor, a hematologist, and get stymate or whatever medicine you need for whatever disorder you have (I get powdered VB factor) and PRE MEDICATE before you go, and 5 days after. Also make sure you tell the piercer so they're prepared.

I would strongly suggest not getting your tongue peirced if you have a blood clotting disorder, even though it is really cool. The tongue very often bleeds lots anyway and takes a while to heal properly, when one of my mates had hers done it didnt stop bleeding for 4 days. If you have a blood clotting disorder, this is likely to make the complications even higher with the risk of very large blood loss, so overall I would say it probably isnt worth it.
Also if your belly button got badly infected, it could show that your body doesnt like having peircings, which is a bummer, i have that and cant have any done, buttt its safer not to risk the infections again because especially in the mouth they can cause serious medial difficulties like blood poisoning.

Yeah your tongue is the strongest muscle in your body im pretty sure.. with all its blood veins/vessels. This could be really dangerous! You dont want to lose your tongue do you? I wouldn't get it pierced ever if I was you. But if you absolutly WANT to..then you deffinitly need to talk to your doctor when your older? And if it does get infected then whole other problems with your blood clotting can add up. Good Luck :)

Your toungue has a lot of veins and blood vessels in it. I would be VERY careful about getting my tongue pierced if I were you. Besides the obvious risk of bleeding excessively, tongue piercings get infected the most out of any other piercing. I would really reccomend seeing a doctor, but if you absolutley cannot see one (I would REALLY encourage seeing one) then make sure that you go to a very CLEAN place with well trained professionals. Make sure you tell them about your disorder and take their advice. You should feel free to ask lots of questions about the process and about the sterilization level of their equipment. They should be able to answer all your questions well. If you do not feel comfortable with the place or person, do not hesitate to walk out and find somewhere else. Your health comes first. If it bleeds a lot, you should go to the hospital. Consider the risks involved very carefully beforehand. If you do decide ro pierce your tongue, be careful and investigate your options. Good Luck and I hope I helped you.

Love, Rainbow

considering your tongue has many major veins it is incredibly differant from piercing your ears or belly button. my sister had her tongue pierced and she does not have a blood clotting disorder, but it was bleeding uncontrolably.

i would not recremend doing this, but if you insist make sure you go to a place that is especially trained so they know just where to pierce it so they don't hit any major veins.

also a warning, tongue piercings get infected 36% of the time. so be careful!
