I have the same problem. I dyed my hair a level 3 for about 6 months (I got it dyed about once a month). Now I'm wanting to go back to my natural light brown color.
What my hair stylist recommended for me was to put highlights in my hair (my hair was so damaged that I couldn't get the color stripped). She said I'd have to get the black out over time with getting highlights every so often, then dying my hair close to my natural brown.

Give your poor hair a break! I'd wait at least a couple months before you dyed it or even TOUCHED it again.

In the meantime, I'd highly recommend a few things. Your hair will thank you.
1. Intensive Moisturizing or repairing shampoo and conditoner.
2. Weeky deep-conditioning masks (like olive oil, leave in conditioner for a half hour, etc)
3. Limit hair dryers, straighteners, curling irons when possible.
4. Heat protecting spray like VO5 Miracle! Mist or TresSemme.

If the color of your roots is truly repulsive, use a washout dye like Loreal Color Pulse or Herbal Essences ColorFlirt.

Both of these result in minimal damage (I think it actually improves your hair's texture) and act as mroe of a stain than a dye.

When you DO go to strip out the dye, I'd suggest dyeing it a much lighter shade than you have now. Anything's less damaging than stripping your hair. One of my friends did that, and her hair is now the color, consistency, and texture of straw.

EDIT: I looked some stuff up on google. This was the first site that came up. The First product on the list looks promising, and it has 4 out of 5 stars in customer reviews!
