Question Posted Wednesday January 3 2007, 11:26 pm
i didn't know what category this goes in , sorry.
but im 14 obviously a girl, and when i have my period it seems like it controls my life for that week, because im so self concious about what i wear and if anyone can see anything
and all the older girls like teens or in their 20s seem like they don't even get their period.
so what im asking is how do you deal with it?
and become comfortable in what you do and what you wear during "that time of month"?
sorry it was so long

I was always afraid that I was gonna have a leak, or someone was gonna see my pad through my pants, and I was so shy to even carry around something in my purse, incase if somebody saw it. Yea, I was super paranoid, haha. But after awhile, you get comfortable with having your period. You realize that almost every girl has it. If not yet, then they will. It's not a big deal, so that' probably why older girls are more laid-back about having their period. Just try not to worry about it as much. Just wear whatever's comfortable to you. Try not to stress out about it too much, or else you'll be worrying about it all day, and trust me, I know that it's extremely annoying to have your period on your mind 24/7. =] [ leLovely's advice column | Ask leLovely A Question ]

Anyways, your 14 so you've obviously recently gotten your period for the first time in the last couple years. Saying that, there's going to be worries because you're not totally used to it. I'm 16 and I'm still getting used to the whole bleeding for a week thing, and I started when I was 11.
Try not to be self-concious because that can make you're nerves react and change the cycle, totally throwing you off count. Women around the age of 20 have had their periods for many years by then and have become used to it and it becomes a part of their monthly routine. It's not big deal, you'll get the hang of it.
As for what to wear, make sure you wear a darker pair of underwear/pants and jeans or chords (SP?). They make me feel safer because they're so thick and it's harder to leak through. Make sure you always keep a spare, in your locker or something. To clairify, keep a little handbag or something with extra underwear, pads/tampons (whichever you use), and maybe a tide-to-go and some perfume. Well I hope this is what you were looking for and I hope it helps ♥
