Well i dont think its gross cause my gf does it and she says it feel amazing and yes it is considered masturbating and from what i know if you just finger it isint gonna feel good just rubbin it you have to find your clit and then you stimulate it which leads to having an orgasim.

yes that counts as masterbating, and it depends on the person. Some women get pleasure from fingering, others don't. Its not strange if you don't.
