Dermatoligist

Question Posted Thursday December 28 2006, 1:13 pm

I have this weird rash on which started me picking a tiny bubble on my middle finger. Then it got dry and some more tiny bubbles came and spread to my other fingers. I think it's Ezema or Psiasis or whatever they are called. I'm going to the dermatoligist and I need to know something...

Do you have to bring a physical?
Do you take one there? Like height and weight?
Do they draw blood?
I have a pretty sucky insurance it's Kaiser so I'm going there so anyone who has them too and went to the Dermatoligist there please help.

you dont have to bring a phusical and they dont make you take one , they may ask for height and weight but they probably wont measure you , you'll just tell them , they will ask for medical history and the name of your primary care Dr. sometimes in certain cases they draw blood but I highly doubt they will in yours because they're looking at a rash . I don't know anything about your insurance. but FYI the bubble on your finger was probably a wart and when you picked it the bacteria spread and caused other warts to apear. Ezema and Psoriasis almost never just form on their own out of nowhere. they are usually genetic and people who have it usually have it from the time they were born. I have also never hear of ezema or Psoriasis forming on a finger and if either of the skin conditions did it would probably be in an extreme ongoing case. ezema is normaly found on the legs or upper arms. Psoriasis is usually found on the elbows or knees .

You don't have to bring a physical, but you need to know the names of your doctors and social security number and all the good stuff like that.
They might take your height and weight, but it's not a big issue.
They don't draw blood just to draw blood. They usually draw blood to make sure you're not pregnant before prescribing you certain pills that will give babies birth defects.
I don't have Kaiser, sorry :(

I've been going to my dermatologist for 6 years and she's awesome!
Just remember, when they tell you not to pop zits, DON'T POP THEM!! lol

Oddly enough, I think I may know what you're talking about because I have the same problem. Is it really intensley itchy where the bubbles are? Also, are they really tiny little bubbles filled with a clear fluid? If so, it sounds like the same form of eczema I have recently been diagnosed with. It's not there all the time but I have flare-up's every month or two.

Currently what I used is a steroid cream called Dermovate (prescription only so you will need to see your doctor) in the morning and before bed and then Anthisan Cream throughout the day. So far, that seems to keep it at bay or get rid of it quite quickly.

However, I strongly recommend you see your doctor about this. Other than the obvious fact that it may be a different form of eczema, with anything like this, they need to provide you with the correct treatment and/or refer you to a dermatologist. I've recently been to see one for this eczema also and have been given a list of do's and don'ts for the next four months. For example, I'm not meant to use normal soap but a special liquid soap they've given me that doubles as a moisturiser. I'm not meant to wash my hair with bare hands but instead use non-latex plastic (not rubber) gloves which should be disposable. So on and forth. It's a NIGHTMARE but it helps them work out if it's a contact related eczema or just a randomly occurring kind.

The Dermatologist usually does not do a physical but they will normally take your height and weight, in order to assess your physical health. They don't usually do blood tests, although depending on the type of skin problem you have, they might decide to run tests to make sure it's nothing else.

Hope that helps. I can't help the insurance part of it I'mn afraid, as I'm in the UK and we have the NHS but if you need to know anything else, feel free to ask.

I have this type of eczema. My experience was I went into the doctor and he asked me questions. Looked at the rash and knew right away it was eczema. He gave me a perscription and that was that. I did however have to go back and try some different perscription's to get the right one. I have never heard of anyone having blood drawn or need a physical.
I am sure they will ask some questions possibly height and weight if they intend to give a perscription that info. is needed.
