okay, i'm not sure i'm spelling this right. but i have two cladder(?) rings. like the irish jewelry. with the heart, and the hands and the crown. well i have two. what exactly do they mean? i know its suppose to like signify that you're taken or single but what else? because for christmas my boyfriend bought me a necklace with a charm of the cladder(?) thing on it because he knows i always wear the rings.

MikeCFT answered Tuesday December 26 2006, 2:24 pm: The hands represent friendship, the heart represents love and the crown represents loyalty. If you wear it with the bottom of the heart pointed out from your hand- it means your heart is open and if you wear it the other way it means you are taken and your heart is closed. The best way to learn about a Claddagh Ring is to really get into the writings on the internet. There is one or two common meanings that have followed the tradition through, but by now the purpose has become pretty much whatever you would like it to be. I know a couple of my female friends have Claddagh Rings from their father. One friend was told that it meant she (the daughter) belonged to the father until such time as she fell in love and started up a family. While another friend of mine went by the same guidelines, only a promise of virginity until marriage was also agreed upon. Traditions alter vastly over the years, but the special bond behind the ring will always remain.
