I think I have insomnia, I swear. I get really tired at night, but I cant fall asleep until 3 AM and I go to bed at like 10! Someone help..I dont know what to do. My mom doesnt really believe me.
Only use your bed for sleeping, that way you'll only associate it with that. Don't read on it or do homework or sit around, just sleep. When you lie down at night, if you don't fall asleep within half an hour, get up. Get OUT of bed and, say, read for fifteen minutes. Go back to bed and repeat. That way your body will come to associate your bed with sleeping and hopefully learn to obey.
Also, try relaxing exercises, like clenching each muscle starting from your head down and then releasing it.
What I found to help too, is very funny sounding, but it works for me. I choose something--adjectives, songs, bands, tv shows--anything like that, and for each letter of the alphabet, I try to come up with a word. For instance, if I used tv shows, I could do "Alice I Think, Bones, Corner Gas, Degrassi . . ." and so on. It keeps me concentrating on that and nothing else. If you're not a literary person, you might have better luck with counting slowly to yourself, or multiplication tables.
It really is a pain in the butt, isn't it? I'm on meds and I'm a lot better than I used to be, combined with the alphabet games, but I still sometimes have trouble.
xostarbrightbaby answered Sunday December 24 2006, 2:13 am: It used to happen to me all the time. Then I put myself on a strict schedule. I changed around things too at night like turning off any lights in the room, keeping music on/off, not drinking any caffine before i went to bed, not going on the computer a half hour prior to going to bed, and stop taking naps after school. Alot of the time it depend on if i had alot on my mind. So what I suggest is lay down at 8pm, don`t drink any caffine, try writing in a journal/diary to put whats on your mind there so you're not thinking about it. Don`t go on the computer or stay in a room with a tv or anything that will distract you. You can try changing other things. If you don`t see a difference within a week or so then go to the doctors and talk about getting sleeping pills to help. :) Hope this helps. ♥ [ xostarbrightbaby's advice column | Ask xostarbrightbaby A Question ]
BooYouWhore answered Sunday December 24 2006, 1:53 am: that used to happen to me a lot. It has a lot to do with how you act during the day and how you eat. If you have a lot of caffinated beverages or things high in sugar late at night or late in the afternoon, that could be contributing to it. If you aren't active during the day, then that has a lot to do with it because you have extra energy. Try going for walks or runs and excercising throughout the day and try to limit your caffeine intake, especially beyond around noon. If that doesn't help, try not to have soda too late either, and if you're still having problems, talk to a doctor. It could be psychological or they could be helpful in treating you, even if its with a narcotic.
Hope I helped!
