Those low-carb fad diets usually don't work. You need carbohydrates, but not a lot more than you will use. Get carbs from sources such as whole-grain breads and pastas, fruits, vegetables, milk, and meat (which is also a good source of protein). Stay away from refined carbohydrates, these are the bad ones. They are usually found in white bread, sugar (pop/soda, candy), and pasta that isn't whole-grain or whole-wheat. Search the internet for more, I'm just giving you some ideas for the basis of a weight-loss diet. Don't get too much fat, but you still need some. I would also suggest using protein powder as well. Even though you aren't going for muscle, your body still needs protein because even if you're not lifting weights, any form of exercise breaks down your muscles. Some powders also contain essential amino acids. As I said before, cut back on the sugar. Avoid desserts and stay away from candy and sugary pop or soda, whatever you want to call it. Diet pop is OK, though. Keep yourself hydrated with water. I've heard of people losing 6 or 7 pounds a week. But that's because of fluid loss, not fat loss. I know that I took a long time, but you might find this last piece of information helpful. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So that means that you would need to either need to eat 500 less calories or burn 500 more a day to lose one pound of fat in one week. Also, you need to burn more calories than you eat. One last thing, your metabolism will increase from regular exercide, so you will end up burning more calories and I've heard that doing cardio in the morning will use stored fat for energy instead of stored food. Sorry that it was so long. Hope I helped! [ baseball34's advice column | Ask baseball34 A Question ]

If it doesn't work, it's because you are eating too much or exercising too little. It won't happen soon. It takes time AND commitment. But if losing weight is important to you, then you can do it. I know a lot of people who can do it, but just keep giving in to candy, chocolates and carbs. I'm afraid it doesn't work that way. It's either a great body or a box of chocolate. Your choice.
My dad has lost 70 pounds on Atkins. My aunt has lost 100 on Atkins, I believe. It didn't happen over night. It took about 2 years. But they really wanted that slim body. And now they have it. [ pootietang's advice column | Ask pootietang A Question ]

xx2momma2xx answered Friday December 15 2006, 2:06 pm: That's a GREAT QUESTION! I am going to have to start losing weight myself pretty soon here(I am pregnant and due in February.) One thing I would not reccomend is diet pills! Medications for diets are ususally not very healthy for you. If you have the money I would recommend starting at a gym. They usually have a specialist that can help you start your workout to help you lose the weight. But eating very healthy, NON FATTY foods and walking or working out at home(lifting weights or just excersizing) should help. It may take a few weeks but it is very healthy and it works. Good luck.
