Question Posted Saturday December 2 2006, 4:09 pm

14/f
My friend thinks that I'm anorexic. She even told me she thinks it, because according to her I've gotten "bonier". I don't know what to say or do because there is absolutely no way that I am anorexic. I mean yes there have been a few nights where I've skipped dinner because of pure exhaustion, and i don't always eat lunch in school, but i still maintain a healthy eating pattern. I started high school this year, and between stress and joining the swim team and swimming 4 times a week, i lost about 6-7 pounds. But I'm still 5'1, 122 lbs which is a little bit above average. What should I do to make her believe me? Talking hasn't helped much.

If you want to prove it to her, show her one of those sites where they tell you the average weight for people and they have a chart and the age and then what the average weight for people of that age should be and show her there that you're totally fine.

Also, some sites even have a weight sort of calculator thing where you enter your height and weight, and it'll give you your BMI and then it'll tell you if you're BMI's "this number-this number" you're unhealthy "this number-this number" you're fine.

So just fine a site and prove it to her. I would provide you one, but there's seriously so many different sites so I don't know which one you'd prefer.

Also, I would have a talk with her about that "anorexic" thing. That's a serious thing to accuse someone of being, and if she's your best friend she shouldn't be saying that. And if she's going to be calling you that, she should at least be trying to help you out with it and make it better. Not just STAND there and watch it happen ( but like I said, if this were to be true ).

Just show that chart to her and explain to her once more, you really aren't anorexic. You're of totally average weight and it hurt whenever she accused you of being such a thing.

I hope I helped.

Hey-

This is a serious accusation she is making. She might not realize it, but just saying that to any one, even your best friend, can cause them to become anorexic. Now, under your circumstances, I understand why she might think you are anorexic. It seems like the only thing you can do to prove you are not anorexic, besides eating around her, is to tell her everything you just told me. Tell her about how sometimes you are very exhausted when you get home, so you don't eat dinner, and sometimes you just aren't in the mood to eat. The same thing happens with me, and I know for a fact that I'm not anorexic. Just sit her down and tell her every reason why you are not anorexic. If she doesn't believe you right away, she will eventually. Her telling you is showing, in a way, that she really cares about your health, so try not to get mad at her.

Hope I helped!
Merry Christmas!
