Question Posted Saturday November 25 2006, 10:19 am
Hello, I am 6'4 295 pounds and 19 years old.
I really have just been sitting for the past few years gaining weight without really paying attention.. But as I realize how terrible it is for me to be 295 pounds at 19.
I need some good advice to take off the weight.
Also, what would be a target weight for someone of my height?
A little background :
I used to drink 12 packs of mountaindew every other day, have regular flavored taco chips at least 3 times a week and eat lots of white flour products. I stopped drinking soda about 7 months ago and have a can once or twice a month now.
I have cut out white flour within the last two months.
I have been a vegetarion all my life up until recently, Now I don't eat any animal products except for omega3 free range eggs.
I have freetime up the yinyang and am ready to do ANYTHING you have to suggest, I have a treadmill capable of upto 10MPH and a weight set with upto 300Lbs of weight already.

To tell you the complete truth, calories are good, to some extent. Calories are what give you energy. When you eat more calories than you burn off, then that's where the calories convert to fat. So you need to take note on how many calories you're eating; once you realize that, if it's too much, then cut back on some things that you eat/drink. You should drink lots of water, it cleans your system. So to keep a balance with your calories, you need to burn what you take in. You can also go to the gym, and get a trainer, and he will give you a diet, and encourage you, so you get the confidence you need to burn off. The trainer will tell you you need lots of protien. So to get a head start on that, start eating things with lots of protien. :) Hope I helped! [ soendearing's advice column | Ask soendearing A Question ]

Cut down on the amount of food that you eat. Don't stop eating, but cut your meals in half. If you usually have a plate of salad for dinner, have half of a plate from now on. The amount of calories you have will drop dramatically, and you will still be eating foods you enjoy.
Don't eat after 6 pm. If you do, you will not lose any weight while you sleep.
Add celery and/or asparagus to your diet. They actually help take calories out of your system.
Don't drink anything except water or flavored water. Not only does water not have any calories, but it cleans out your digestive system.

I've basically been the same weight the entire time I've been cutting out animal stuff. later on, down the road, I might be able to help you with low-fat vegan cooking because I cook for my parents who are losing weight because of it. I am also on the heavy side and just last year, was when i started to do something about it. I used to be gaining about 20 pounds a year, but last year, i was determined. Anyways the average weight of a person your height is about 181 to 207. This may seems like a long way to go, but dont worry, take it baby steps. I need to lose about 70 pounds, but i am taking baby steps.
It sounds you like you have been doing a great job so far, but you may want to take advantage of the treadmill. Go on every day for about 30 minutes, and no more than that. You dont want to over do it. As well try to replace some fattty foods with fruits and veggies. Once you start, you will start craving fruits and veggies.
It may be hard at first, but dont worry it will become easier. This routing usually is alot less pain ful when you do with somebody. I am doing it with my mom, because she is also overweight.
When you have some one to do it with, you can explain yourself, and they will understand what your going through. Plus, drink about 10 cupz of water everyday.
And if you want you can ask your doctor to take diet pills. MOst doctors will say yes, if you larger than most people, i used to take Dexatrim Maxx, and with the excersize, diet, no snacks, and all the water, i lost 5 punds in the first week.
Once you get past the first week, it becomes easier. If you want to talk anymore about this, feel free to leave some stuff in my inbox.
Oh, you can also go to a weight loss program, like Weight Watchers. In this program i lost 10 pounds. But in this program, you have to stick with it, because when i left, i gianed the weighth back.
I hop i helped. DOnt give up no matter how hard it may seem. Sum weeks you may lose weight, some weeks you may gein, and some weeks you will plateau(stay the same). Keep working at it, because you feel much better after. [ chicacaliente's advice column | Ask chicacaliente A Question ]
