I had changed my fuel filter in my 99 accura legand, and after I had done so, it doesnt go into reverse, or it doesnt shift gears. I was wondering if perhaps there may be a vaccume problem there or something of that sort?
rick505 answered Wednesday November 22 2006, 11:32 pm: not to be repetative but the fuel filter in not related to the transmission. if your car start up, idles,and you can press the gas and rev up the engine with it in park (or neutral for a stick) the fuel filter is just fine. if this is a stick shift and you are having problems shifting in and out of gears, try pumping the clutch. if pumping the clutch allows some minimal movement with shifting you probably have a leak in the clutch system. you can check this. there is a little resovoir under the hood next to where the brake fluid is. the is the cluctch slave cylinder. pop open the top. if it is not full poor a little dot 3 brake fluid in there to top it off. if you clutch immediately starts working you have a leak in you clutch system somewhere...good luck. orphans answered Tuesday November 21 2006, 11:32 pm: that's not a vaccum issue. what you probably did is either put the fuel filter on backwards (very common mistake) or you need the transmission flushed. liklihood is since it's a 1990 you'll need to flush the tranny fluid and refill it with new fluid as well as check the hoses going to and coming from your tranny. and your transmission filter. and if all else fails you could have just killed it. the liklihood is you'll need to replace it just the same as transmission problems are very very tricky and time consuming. and the fact is that changing the fuel filter shouldn't affect the transmission in any way. so it was gonna break sooner or later.
