Ijust need to know if you have an ingrown toenail that is swollen, painful, and red but no pus do I need to go to the dr. if so what do they look for before they take it out. I have had this problem for three months it is worse on one than the other foot. I have tried all sorts of remedies but nothing works. PLEASE HELP
MikeCFT answered Sunday November 19 2006, 5:51 pm: I have a problem with these, I feel your pain. Mine got so bad that a corner of the nail was almost sticking out of the skin. Yes it was disgusting. I had to go to the doc because it was bad, he gave me a local Lanacane shot in my toe which totally deadened all the nerves and i watched him rip underneath the nail and cut half the nail off my toe and I didn't feel a thing...until the shot wore off a few hours after I got home lol.

I'm not sure what they will do, but they probably won't have to remove the whole nail. My guess is that they will numb your toe and just remove the corner of the nail.
