My hair has recently started falling out. Not a lot, like alopecia (I know what that looks like, my brother had a mild case of it when he was younger), but significantly more than it used to. I have really thick hair, but it never really shed before and now I find that whenever I run my fingers through my hair in the shower I lose probably somewhere around 8-12 strands. My eating habits have not changed and I'm not under any more amount of stress than I have been, so I'm just curious as to what else could be the cause and whether or not this is something I should worry about. So, is it a big deal, or does this happen to everyone?

It's common for people to shed hair, especially if they have thicker hair. People lose around 100 strands a day, so if you find you're only losing around 8-12 strands in the shower, that's totally normal. Just remember to brush your hair, so all those other dead hairs get out and clean your brush too after so you're not brushing those dead hairs back into your head!
