by running your hand through it and what not, you make the other strands more .. brittle. so eventually, when you i.e. take a shower so on and so forth, it comes out, try not to do that anymore. also they make shampoo for that to, that you might want to consider.

your hair could be really weak/fine (like mine was) get some shampoo for fine hair that strengthens it.also what happens with me is one week it falls out a lot,the next it almost never falls out,so if you can figure out when your hair falls out and when it doesnt,it'd be easier to see if something is really wrong.if you hair falls out ALL the time,a lot,and for a while i think you should ask your doctor. also are you eating enough protein? protein makes up your hair & nails, so if you find your nails are breaking a lot, then you should check that out also. dont brush your hair when its wet, comb it.maybe get some detangeler(sp) also =)
i hope i helped!!! good luck!!

While I'm a guy with short hair atm, I've grown my hair out to donate before (my hair grows incredibly fast) so I have experienced this as well.

For one, I never noticed how much hair I lost at a constant rate until I grew it out - as a guy I had buzzcuts or high&tights for years and its hard to notice hair loss when hair is that short. I never was keen on brushing my hair (made it very 'poofy'), so I would comb it while it was wet...most of the hair I would lose would be in the shower.

Second, I too noticed a lot of hair coming out when I had my hair in a ponytail. But to be honest, it could very well have been the same amount of hair that was lost as when the hair was loose...and it only seems like you are losing more hair, because its bound up in the ponytail and it isn't as free to fall out wherever you go.

I wouldn't freak out at all, everyone loses hair. But if you still feel that its falling out too much in a month or two from now, I'd go see a doctor just to be on the safe side.

It is normal for your hair to fall out. About 100 strands of hair fall out daily, and especially in the shower and whenever you come your hair because whenever your hair's strands are "dead", they sort of just sit there, and not all of them fall out as easily until whenever you brush or shower, so it only seems like there's alot coming out at once, when really it just may be strands that are stuck in your hair during the day.

It could possibly be because you're always wearing your hair up. If you make a ponytail TOO tight, sometimes it can cause hairs to fall out.

I hope I helped.

It's normal to have hair coming out.
But not in CHUNKS, you know?
A couple of strands or so.
Especially when you run your hands through it, take a shower, brushing, etc.

Hair goes through a cycle.
And usually 100+ pieces of hair falls out.

There's also a certain amount of hair that falls out daily. Some of it is noticed while the other half isnt.
