In arguement to GODROX123's statement, Jesus did not drink alcohol. Infact, Jesus told us not to "look upon wine when it is red." In that day in time, when wine was red, it had gone through a certain process of fermenting that, when ingested, had similar effects that alcohol has today.

Jesus and his disciples went to a wedding (John 2:1-11.) During this wedding, Jesus transformed about 600 litres (130 gallons) of water into OINOS (original Greek translation). In the original Greek, these verses use the word OINOS, which means either alcohol or fresh grape juice. But, "Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in...drunkenness... But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts." (Romans 13:13-14) Surely Jesus did not make any provision for the flesh, to fulfil its lusts. Surely what He made was grape juice.

honestly, no where in the Bible does it state that nobody should drink alcohol. because what did Jesus do at the wedding in Cannan *sp?* as one of His miracles...he turned the water into wine. The Bible only says not to be drunk from alcohol. To become drunk from alcohol is against the Bible, but to just have some wine or something isn't bad

The key is moderation, not just in drinking but in all things. Jesus wants you to enjoy your life, thus all the scriptures of Joy; however, still living by his rules.

“Everyone that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things” (1 Cor. 9:25)

“Let your moderation be known unto all men” (Phil. 4:5)

I believe it is okay to drink, just not to get drunk.

Proverbs 23:34 - Alcohol makes the drinker unstable

Proverbs 23:35 - Alcohol makes the drinker insensitive to pain so he does not perceive it as a warning. Alcohol is habit forming.

Proverb 31:4-5 - Kings, Princes, and others who rule and judge must not drink alcohol. Alcohol perverts good judgment.

Proverbs 31:6-7 - Strong drink could be given to those about to perish or those in pain. Better anesthetics are available today.

Ecclesiastes 2:3 - The king tried everything, including intoxicating drink, to see if it satisfied. It did not. (Ecclesiastes 12:8)

Ecclesiastes 10:17 - A land is blessed when its leaders do not drink.

Isaiah 5:11-12 - Woe to those who get up early to drink and stay up late at night to get drunk.

Isaiah 5:22 - Woe to "champion" drinkers and "experts" at mixing drinks.

Isaiah 19:14 - Drunken men stagger in their vomit.

Isaiah 22:12-13 - The Israelites choose to drink; their future looks hopeless to them.

Isaiah 24:9 - Drinkers cannot escape the consequences when God judges.

Isaiah 28:1 - God pronounces woe on the drunkards of Ephraim.

Isaiah 28:3 - Proud drunkards shall be trodden down.

Isaiah 28:7 - Priests and prophets stagger and reel from beer and wine, err in vision, and stumble in judgment.

just a few of the MANY.
hope I helped you.

go w/ there verses on why you shouldn't ABUSE it but it never says you can't drink it period. i mean back in Jesus's day they always drank wine. i mean they did at the last supper. but yeah, it does say you shouldn't abuse it.

Well, you have to be careful with this; there are a lot of references. Many references though are not as simple as "God said you shouldn't drink", in fact, many are simply references along the lines of "Drunkenness causes poverty" (Proverbs 23:21) and "Alcohol makes the drinker unstable" (Proverbs 23:34).

Note that both of the last two quotes I am quoting from my source quoted later; these are probably not the exact wordings (I'm not going to get the Bible out and check, I'm sure if you are interested you will do that irregardless).

Of what I saw (the upcoming site lists 75 sources), few say that alcohol is specifically prohibited. Personally I wouldn't use those in an argument/debate myself, but they DO often imply, often indirectly, that 'people shouldn't drink'. The ones I thought were the most applicable:

Leviticus 10:9-11 - God commanded priests not to drink so that they could tell the difference between the holy and the unholy.

Psalm 75:8 - The Lord’s anger is pictured as mixed wine poured out and drunk by the wicked.

Proverbs 23:31 - God instructs not to look at intoxicating drinks.

Isaiah 24:9 - Drinkers cannot escape the consequences when God judges.

Isaiah 28:1 - God pronounces woe on the drunkards of Ephraim.

Ezekiel 44:21 - Again God instructed the priests not to drink wine.

Hosea 7:5 - God reproves princes for drinking.

Nahum 1:10 - The drunkards of Nineveh will be destroyed by God.

Luke 12:45 - Christ warned against drunkenness.

1 Corinthians 6:10 - Drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of God

Galatians 5:21 - Acts of the sinful nature, such as drunkenness, will prohibit a person from inheriting the kingdom of God.

IMO only those 11 are irrefuteable in a sense, in that those are more difficult to undermine and disbelieve. [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) has many more, but they run the gamut from social views to common sense observances. For example: "Habakkuk 2:16 - Drinking leads to shame." Many people would argue "That doesn't mean you shouldn't drink as though its a rule, its common sense..."

I found this website. To answer your question, look for the entries titled "Warnings against abuse" and "Vows of abstinence."

Anyway, I decided to note a few verses (King James) for you as well.

Leviticus 10:9
Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations.

Judges 12:4
Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing.

Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise
