Battling with stress

Question Posted Saturday September 23 2006, 8:39 am

I don't even know where to start... I'm a high school senior and I'm so damn busy with schoolwork. We're doing this film for our class project and deadline's already next week. The problem is, we're not even finished shooting all the scenes! I've been putting so much time and effort into this film(I got terribly sick last week and I lost 6-8 pounds from the time we started filming which was 3 weeks ago) but my actors don't seem to realize that we don't have all the time in the world, like, they're just lazing around sometimes and stuff...
I'm also an editor of the school paper and we're also rushing to finish the lay-outs because the deadline to the printer is also next week!
That's not all. I have to do my Investigatory project and I also have two research papers to finish! Actually I still don't have a topic for the other one and my English teacher hasn't given us our topic yet so for sure I'm gonna be cramming like crazy....

Sometimes I just feel restless...I can't concentrate in class becasue my mind is constantly focused on other things ALL the time... I've been losing weight and I don't want that to continue because other people have been telling me that I'm so skinny(I now only weigh 95lbs and my normal weight is around 100lbs.).
I also have DARK eyebags and I have a lot of pimples now...Plus, my cough just won't go away...
What can I do to reduce the stress?

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I'm a senior too, and I know it's a really stressful time. Tell the people you're working with on the video that they need to help you out because you can't do everything all by yourself. And about everything else, just take a deep breath and RELAX. You'll get everything done. Make sure you manage your time wisely. That will help reduce a lot of stress being put on you at the last minute. Just keep in mind that you're not the only person having to deal with all this crap, and just remember that it's all almost over. Just get this last little bit of crap over with, and you're home free from the stresses of high school FOREVER!

Well sound like your super busy! Take some time for yourself for a change. Or you can go into your college professors and explain what is going on and they may not give you such a load of homework. Remember to take time to RELAX and the stress will level itself out. Good luck!

Hope I helped!!!

I can personally understand exactly where you're coming from. I had a similar problem with being overwhelmed by work and disease during my junior year. The best thing that I can actually recommend for you is to be very organized. Actually get out a piece of paper and write out the things you need to do, so instead of having a chaotic jumble in your head, you have a systematic organized list. It's bad enough having tons of stuff to do, why make it harder on yourself by being disorganized? Trust me, if you put everything in order, things start to simplify themselves. Plus, being organized inherently makes things easier to get done.

My second piece of advice is prioritize. Look at your list and think what needs to get done NOW and take care of those things first. If there are some things that can wait, LET THEM WAIT. Don't worry about something unless you absolutely have to.

My third recommendation is to simply take time to relax. Take at least a good half-hour chunk of your day to simply LET GO. Go take a walk or a jog, flop down on the couch to watch an episode of some cartoon, go down to Jamba Juice with some friends and chat over smoothies. The key is to become completely detached from work for a small period of time to let yourself wind down. Erase your mind of all your stresses and worries and just enjoy yourself for a little bit out of every day. Even the smallest amount of ME-time works WONDERS to balance out a horribly hectic schedule.

Good Luck!
