I'm going to try to help you out, but this assignment really depends on you as a person and what your family values. Words or images you see everyday that stand out: On the dollar bill it says "In God We Trust", which symbolizes what the majority of Americans value, religion. Also, the American flag, the Lincoln Memorial, and the eagle also represent freedom. If you see the court house, this could symbolize justice and peace. If you pass a music store, this could symbolize freedom of speech. These images show what we value, ie: freedom, freedom of speech, justice, peace, freedom of religion, etc. As for what it means to be an American, that's up to you. Images or words in media shape the American society. Media tells us whats in style, what music to listen to, what is right and what is wrong. I hope this helped.
