help please. i love your advice so pleaase help me I'm a junior in high school and my parents keep pushing me about college. Counselors at school are shoving college surveys in my face and all my friends are asking, "Where are you going to go to college?"
My answer is that I have no idea! And it's really starting to stress me out. I don't know what kind of degree I want (associate's or bachelor's), what I want my major to be, what I want to be when I grow up, or where I want to go to college. I spend hours every day researching different programs and colleges and their requirements, etc.
All I know is that I love foreign languages and Algebra (not calculus). But I have an incredible fear of public speaking, and a major in a foreign language would require lots of it. So then I considered Latin. But not many colleges offer that so far for Associate's degrees..It's just frustrating. And most colleges require a public speaking class but some don't, and I'm looking up colleges that don't because again, I'm really nervous about that.
I'm sad because I don't know what to do with my life. I don't want to be filthy rich but I want to at least be middle class doing something with foreign languages. Basically, if the job market was not as competitive as it is, I would not be considering going to college.
What do I do?
**Remember I don't know what kind of degree I want so please don't assume I want a bachelor's**

Well in considering a college you should think about weather you want to be close to home or spread your wings a bit. Plus do they have classes you want to take. You don't have to make a decision right now either you got time to think about it. So just tell people you haven't decided yet.
Don't spend hours researching right now. Just step back when you get stressed because you can go to college for a couple of years if you want to without declaring any major. You can take classes that interest you and go with something you really enjoy once you get into it. It might be something you've never even considered before. Lots of people do it that way if they have trouble deciding. If you go to a college close to home, you can even carry a very light part time load of classes if you don't want to go full time. You have lots of options.
If really interested in languages but not public speaking, keep in mind that your love of languages doesn't necessarily have to be the main job you do.
I have worked in the medical field so I will use it only as an example. Many hospitals would
be happy to have someone fluent in languages working anywhere in the hospital. There is a real need to have someone help communicate with patients who don't understand English. Especially in emergency situations. There are other jobs where your language skills would help you get a job but not necessarily BE your main job.
So you have plenty of time and Many options. Don't feel you have to rush it because that's what is expected. Tell those who try and pressure you that this is one of the most important decisions you will make for your future. You want to make the right choice. And you will. Best of luck. :) ]
