Hey everyone. My world history teacher wants to go to italy for spring break (first 2 weeks of april...yes...we get 2 weeks off) and he wants only about 5 or 6 students to go with him. Well he's obviously got a long time to plan and we'll get more information later...but right now he estimated the trip (for 9 days) to be about $2,500..not too bad right? WRONG if you live in my family! we are in a horrible money situation right now and certainly cant afford it. Heck, I dont think we can afford it when spring break rolls around..so i need a way to make money..enough money to go to italy for spring break. please dont tell me to get a job because i've already considered that and no one (besides mcdonalds) will hire at 15 around here and i'm not about to work at mcdonalds...and even if i did put in for a job...there is no promise i'll get it. So how on earth am i going to make money?? I dont like the basic idea of making and selling food because there is no point in doing it in my neighborhood. So can someone PLEASE help a sister out? I WOULD LOOOOOVE to go to italy! I'm only $2500 away! :) Thanks In Advance To Anyone Who Helps!

The cost was 6,000 bucks. A lot of kids did fundraisers and stuff. One was really easy, and a girl I was friends with came up with it: write letters to people asking for financial help for the trip (be sure to describe what an educational journey it will be) and say that if they donate money, you will send them a postcard. The girl had 40 postcards to mail once she got there, and she got a lot of money from people for that. You could have a raffle for something, you could sell candles, you could write businesses and places around town and see if they want to sponsor you. Try everything you can because it will be a neat experience. Have you asked your parents if they would be willing to donate even a portion of the money? Since you can't get a job, you could start doing work like mowing lawns, babysitting, petsitting... sounds boring but it will help a bit. If you have a special talent... like performing arts or something, you could see if you could put on a show or something and sell tickets. That probably sounds far-fetched, but if you play piano or something you can pull it off. [ uisforukelele's advice column | Ask uisforukelele A Question ]

Maybe a few of you wanting to earn money for the trip can wash cars, do housework, or other odd jobs for the teachers, administration, other parents. The school may even hire you to paint or some other project that could help. What do the people in your neighborhood buy? Candy bars, raffle tickets (don't forget to get a legitamate prize with the money or you will be busted), gardening services, dog-walking, it just depends. Don't give up, girl! tjam106 answered Wednesday September 6 2006, 10:55 am: Do a fundraiser! I did one for my niece and I raised $600 for her.
If you have any Home and Garden Party consultants in your area, contact them and ask them to do a fundraiser. They will give you an order form for a variety of jar candles (really good ones, too). Take the order form to school- between your friends and teachers you should sell a lot. Then have your parents take it to work, ask your family... You will make $2-$3 off each candle to save for your vacation! You probably won't get ALL the money you need, but you will get a lot!
Go to www.homeandgardenparty.com (and FYI I am NOT a consultant, I am just giving you an idea)!
There are other fundraisers out there besides Home and Garden Party, I just had good luck with them.
Another idea is to sell stuff on eBay. You would be shocked to see what you can get for the clothes you don't wear anymore.
Moop answered Tuesday September 5 2006, 9:39 pm: well. if we're at the same school, you're not going to be picked to go on the trip. he's taking seniors and a few juniors.
if we're not going to the same school, you should really consider a job. I have to put up over half in order for my parents to allow me to go. my grandfather is paying for the rest. and I'll probably work all of winter break. if you don't end up going this year, there's always the next time he goes. I wasn't able to go to the UK with my world history teacher freshmen year because I was a freshmen and not doing A work in his class. Now I'm in AP World and I'm already on the list to go to spain. things like this come around multiple times. trust me. [ Moop's advice column | Ask Moop A Question ]
kristen22 answered Tuesday September 5 2006, 8:05 pm: Not being harsh or nothin... But, you said please don't tell me to get a job. How else are you going to come up with that kind of money? A lemonade stand at a quarter a piece? Prostitue? Beg strangers for money? Your only option here IS to get a job. Don't just not put in for McDonalds because there is a CHANCE you won't get it. You don't know if you'll get it or not and McDonalds is hiring ALL the time. Like you said April is a ways away and working from now till then, you'll have the money but all these little gimmick ways to make money don't work. If they did, we would all sit at home on the computer and be rollin in the dough. I know your going to rate me a 1 and I'm ok with that because I told you the truth, not what you wanted to hear.
