well if you have had sex, they will know!! if you havent you dont have anything to worry about in that category.But you mom is right you will have to go eventually anyway. But they will lay you on a table, put your legs in harnases, and then the gyno will stick his/her finger inside you to see is everything is normal and then they will take a swab of you. then its over, its weird, but it doesnt last long
