Question Posted Tuesday August 29 2006, 5:03 pm

I know this is the wrong catergory but my hair gets gross feeling easily. I straighten it & I wash it twice a week. But my hair gets so nasty feeling after like the 2nd day. But if I wear a headband then I can wear my hair down but it still looks kinda bad. & If I wear it without a headband i cant wear it down all week cuz it'll get nasty looking & feeling. & Im thinking of getting sidebangs sooner or later. So my question is how can i wear my hair down & have it feeling nice & silky until i wash my hair again ? Do you have any products I can use ? Thanks for the help <3

There are a number of possible reasons for your hair becoming greasy quickly. However, I would like to state once and for all that hair should only ever be washed at most every THIRD day, not every other day and most certainly not every day. Such frequent washing strips the hair of its natural oils, which causes your scalp to produce more of it, resulting in hair actually becoming far more greasy far more quickly.

Greasiness can be caused by hormonal imbalances, stress, strong hair products and poor diet, so in order to work out how to prevent your hair from becoming greasy fast, you need to work out which of these could be the problem.

In the meantime, I can offer some advice on how to get the best from your hair.

- Always make sure you wash your hairbrush/comb on a regular basis with very hot water. Grease builds up on hair tools like these and unless washed regularly, they can just put grease back into the hair.

- Bear in mind that straightening always dries the hair out. As dry hair can result in extra oil production from the scalp, it is important to compensate. Use a light hair product that protects against heat damage. Although nothing can prevent some level of damage from straightening, such products can lessen the damage caused.

- Watch out for shampoos that produce a lot of lather, as these often contain high levels of detergent which again, will strip the hair of the much needed natural oils.

- Finally, when conditioning, only put conditioner into the body of the hair, rather than up to the scalp. It can be difficult to remove all conditioner from your hair efficiently and as the main effect of conditioner is on the rest of your hair, don't apply it all the way up to the scalp and when rinsing, finish with a blast of cold water, which will help to tighten the follicles which produce the oil.

the reason your hair feels gross and nasty is probably because you have oily hair, and that when you only wash it twice a week a lot of oil builds up. i think you should start washing it every other day, and then maybe even move up to every day. also is you exercise or play a sport, make sure to wash your hair that night.

washing your hair more should get rid of the gross feeling, and make your hair more silky. you can also try using a straitening product when you straighten your hair, and a curling product when curling your hair. i like the John Frieda frizz ease line of products:

i think you should wash your hair every other day and see if you still have that problem. i'd also invest in a leave-in conditioner: i use infusium 23. after you get out of the shower, you spray it in your hair and dry it and style it or whatever. it keeps your hair looking awesome. but i honestly think the ultimate solution is to wash your hair more often. the grease from your scalp gets in your hair and makes it feel gross. and also, even if you don't participate in any sports or anything that requires sweat, you still sweat during the day and that gets in your hair too. certain products may help that, but the ultimate way to get rid of that is to wash your hair every other day. in fact, i wash mine every night because i'm in marching band and we march for 2 hours every morning. as for the frizziness, try a frizz-ease product. those always seem to do the trick. and bedhead products work too: there's one called "control freak" and it's in a green spray can. you spray it on dry hair and then straighten it. it smells good too :)

I don't always wash my hair every day, but if I don't wash it every other day it gets really gross and greasy. If you absolutely CANT wash your hair every other day, you can sprinkle baby powder into your hair and brush it through. The baby powder absorbs the grease which is what makes your hair look so "gross." If you are still going to wash your hair twice a week only, try seperating your hair into layers and sprinkling baby powder on each section of hair. This will keep your hair looking fresher longer. My ultimate suggestion is just to wash it more often, but you may not be able to do that. Trust me though, baby powder is a miracle worker. Brush your hair often, this helps spread the oil through your hair more evenly and helps keep your hair soft and supple.

You should probably wash your hair more often. You're really supposed to wash it every other day.. so I think that's the problem. Also my friend told me this trick that when your hair is greasy, to rub baby powder into the top of it. I've never tried it .. but I guess it's worth a try. Just make sure you don't replace that with washing your hairrr. Hope I helped :]
