my sis and i

Question Posted Monday August 28 2006, 8:05 pm

My sister just recently went to University of Texas in Austin for a softball scholarship. I'm extremely happy for her. I didn't think I'd miss her much becuz she was so bossy but then I started crying and it lasted for hours! We can still e-mail and we have a webcam but I won't get to see her untill Christmas! Are these feelings normal for a sister whose leaving?

Yes.
Take it from someone whose oldest brother went to college when I was three.
Then my sister went when I was nine.
Just this year my last brother went.
I didn't think I would mind so much,
cause I didn't see him that much,
but we dropped him off,
and on the way home I started bawling my eyes out.
Its totally normal.

yes. i'm the youngest of my family and i've had a brother and a sister go to college 4 hours away. for a few months, you're sad, but then you get over it because being an only child rocks. in about two years, you're going to be used to not having her there, and it will be weird when she comes to visit. trust me, you may not think of it that way now, but you will in the future. i still email, text, call, instant message my brother and sister. i mean, it's not like we've grown apart... we've actually grown closer. but yeah, you do get over it pretty quickly.

These feelings are completely normal! Kids all over the world go through this every year. When my brother went to school his Freshman year, he went all the way across the country...I wasn't even very close to him at that time, but I still missed him so much! Since he's been gone (he now goes to school a little closer) we have become closer, even though we don't get to see each other very often. I think it's a part of life...imagine how your sister feels, leaving her house, her friends, her family, and everything she knew home. It's scary, espcially since you have lived together your whole life. It's going to be hard, but just talk to her online, use your webcam, call her on the phone, and Christmas will come sooner then you think! Hang in there! And if you need to talk (because I know what you are going through & what it feels like) you can IM me at emalieee x3
